Wi-Fi vs Bluetooth lighting control: which one runs your roofline?
For a house with internet, Wi-Fi control wins, because it works from anywhere and talks to the rest of your smart home. For a camper, an RV or a cabin with no signal, Bluetooth is the only sane choice. Here is what each actually does.

The short answer
Our permanent home systems run on Wi-Fi through the Thraxel Lighting app. Our camper and RV option runs on Bluetooth with no Wi-Fi at all. That split is not a marketing choice, it follows from what each protocol is good at. Wi-Fi reaches the internet, so your phone can control the house from the office. Bluetooth reaches about as far as you can throw a football, and it needs nothing else to work.

What Wi-Fi control gives you
The controller joins your home network and the app talks to it over the internet. That means scenes from the airport, a schedule that fires at sunset from an astronomical timer, and a Christmas scene that starts on its own the day after Thanksgiving while you are at your in-laws in Erie.
Wi-Fi is also the door to the rest of the house. The system works with Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit and Control4, so the roofline can join a goodnight routine or a game-day scene alongside the interior lights. What Bluetooth control gives you
Bluetooth pairs your phone directly to the controller. No router, no account, no internet. You walk up, open the app, and the lights answer. For a camper parked at a state park with one bar of signal, that is the whole point. It is also simpler to troubleshoot. There is no network password to change, no router reboot that drops the controller, and no cloud outage on the other end. When it does not work, you are usually just too far away.

Where each one falls short
Wi-Fi depends on your network. A controller mounted at the far corner of a big stone house in Sewickley can sit outside the router's reach, and a weak signal turns into an app that spins. We check signal at the controller location on every consult and recommend a mesh node or access point when it is marginal. Bluetooth depends on proximity. You cannot turn the lights on from work, you cannot hand control to a scheduler in the cloud, and the smart-home assistants do not see it. On a permanent home install those limits are dealbreakers, which is why we do not offer Bluetooth as the primary control for a roofline.
Neither is fragile in the way people fear. Once the scene is set and the schedule is saved, the controller runs it locally whether or not your phone is in the room.
Cabins, lake places and second homes
The interesting cases are the in-between properties. A lake house with satellite internet, a cabin with a cellular hotspot, a dock 300 feet from the house. For those we still lean Wi-Fi where any stable connection exists, because remote control of a property you are not at is the entire value. A cabin that lights itself at dusk when you are two hours away is a cabin that looks occupied.
Where there is truly no connection, we build it as a Bluetooth system and set schedules on the controller so it behaves on its own between visits. Same pixels, same RGBWW warm white, same IP67 hardware, just a different way to talk to it.

Home with a router: Wi-Fi, full stop. Camper, RV or off-grid: Bluetooth. Second home: Wi-Fi if you can get a signal to the controller, Bluetooth if you cannot.
