Running permanent lighting with Alexa, Google Home and Apple HomeKit

Two ways to run the system
Every Thraxel permanent lighting install is controlled first through the Thraxel Lighting app, where scenes, colors and schedules live. The lighting hardware itself is covered in full at thraxel.com/permanent/. Voice control through Alexa, Google Home or Apple HomeKit sits on top of that as a second, faster way in for the handful of commands people actually use daily.
Most households settle into two or three voice commands they repeat constantly: turning the roofline on at dusk, switching to a holiday color, or shutting everything off from the couch. The app stays the tool for building new scenes and fine detail.
None of the three platforms require rewiring or a different controller. The integration is a software pairing on top of the existing system, done once during setup and left running from then on.
What voice control is actually good for
Asking Alexa or Google Home to switch scenes hands-free while carrying groceries in from the driveway is the everyday use case, not a novelty feature. The same goes for Apple HomeKit households already running lights, locks and thermostats through Siri.
Voice assistants are also useful for households that already build routines, such as an evening routine that dims the porch lights and switches the roofline to warm white at the same time the thermostat drops for the night.
What voice control is not good for is fine color mixing or building a brand new scene. Naming a new combination of colors or adjusting exact brightness levels is still a job for the Thraxel Lighting app.
Setting it up
Pairing happens after install, during onboarding, and takes minutes rather than hours. A homeowner links their existing Alexa, Google or HomeKit account to the lighting system the same way they would link a smart plug or thermostat.
Because it is a standard smart-home pairing, no extra hub or bridge is required beyond what the household already runs for its other connected devices. The permanent lighting system shows up as a controllable device inside the assistant's own app.
Households running more than one assistant, an Echo speaker and an iPhone, for instance, can pair both. The lighting system does not require picking a single ecosystem.
A common setup mixes assistants inside one household without friction: a kitchen Echo speaker, a phone on Google Assistant, and an iPad running HomeKit can all issue the same basic commands, since each is simply talking to the same underlying lighting system through its own separate pairing.
Where Control4 fits in
