What permanent lighting costs in Western Pennsylvania
There is no Western PA discount and no Western PA markup on permanent lighting. The same national ranges apply, but our housing stock, our winters and our HOAs decide where inside those ranges a Kittanning colonial or a Cranberry two-story ends up.
Start with the national range, then localize it
Ask a search engine what permanent lighting costs and you will get the same answer we give: national industry estimates commonly fall between roughly $20 and $50 per linear foot installed. That figure is not a Thraxel price. What that range hides is how a house lands at one end or the other. The short answer is that Western PA homes are a little older, a little taller on the front elevation, and exposed to weather that punishes cheap hardware. All three shape the quote.
What our housing stock does to the number
Drive through Kittanning, Ford City or New Kensington and you see the pattern. Two-story brick and frame homes from the early and mid 1900s, front porches with columns, a couple of dormers, a detached garage down the alley. That front elevation is mostly the roofline and the porch, and it lights beautifully with a modest amount of track. Footage stays reasonable. Peaks are few. The porch roof and columns are where the design work happens.
Head toward Pittsburgh's northern suburbs, Wexford, Gibsonia, Cranberry Township, and the homes change. Newer construction, more gables stacked across the front, taller garage bays, and often an HOA with an architectural review committee. These houses use more track per elevation and more corners per foot, which puts them higher in the range. They also tend to want more zones, because a house with that much geometry looks better when the peaks and eaves can do different things.
The ranches and split-levels scattered through Butler and Westmoreland County sit at the easy end. Long straight eaves, low fascia, a single peak over the entry. Those are often one-day installs.
What our winters do to the number
Some of the cost in a permanent system is the part you never see. The pixels ride in IP67 marine-grade silicone that has been salt-tested, on 16-gauge wire, in aluminum track. That spec exists because of places like this. Freeze-thaw cycles from November to March, ice dams on north-facing eaves, lake-effect snow north of I-80, and a July that swings from downpour to 90 degrees.
Lighter kits built for milder climates cost less per foot and do not survive a Pennsylvania winter without a service call. The running cost, so nothing is hidden
Electricity is the one ongoing cost, and it is small. A typical 168-LED install running six hours a night uses about $52.80 a year in power. Each pixel draws roughly 0.3 watts, so even a large wraparound system is competing with a couple of porch bulbs on your bill, not with your furnace.
